Some who, what, when, where, why, and even a little how

Where do I even start? The first thing that comes to mind when writing this is Tinder or Hinge. The idea of taking an in-progress memoir and making it even more condensed seems diminishing. But maybe that’s narcissistic. However, if this wasn’t condensed that would defeat the point of an introduction, wouldn’t it?

My name is Max Micallef (they/he/she), and I’m a proud Queer identifying person both in sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m also a proud democratic socialist and LGBTQ+ rights activist here in New York State and beyond. I continue to hold multiple different political and advocacy roles…

3. “Why is she giving so much while receiving so little?”

It was a squirting video. But I’m not starting with this as a shock-value hook to keep you reading. Well, maybe a little. Porn with vaginal squirting is not new for many of you, and it’s not new for me either. I’m Queer both in sexual orientation and gender identity. Though my sexual orientation is slightly more expansive than my romantic or emotional orientation, I tend to be more attracted to masculine-leaning people in both senses. Gender expression more of an influencer rather than identity. However, I’m not usually attracted, also in both senses, to people who identify as women.

June is right around the corner, and it’s time for some structural change

I love me a good primary. Though we have some major clean-up to do of our entire campaign system (how they are financed, voting rights, civic education, etc.), primary elections really expose the muck of our faulty binary politics. As a progressive, a democratic socialist, I smile when the DNC has to step off its arrogant and naively built pedestal. The last few primary elections have really forced the establishment to accept that their structure of condensed power is not as firmly founded as they thought it was. Marginalized, lower-class candidates will not allow themselves to be misrepresented.

Trigger Warning: This article discusses general and personal accounts of, including but not limited to, suicide/suicidal ideation, self-harm, substance abuse, and different types of trauma.

I personally can’t say I had a bad childhood. What I can say is when I think about my childhood, my extensive mental health history comes to the forefront. I have and continue to live with diagnosed forms of anxiety and depression that range in severity; and as of late, it’s been rough. …

Queer needs go well beyond directly Queer policy; and politically, we have to make that clear

Alt-right fascist Caitlyn Jenner at the podium speaking at an event.

Frankly, I’m not shocked. Caitlyn continuing her political mudslide (sorry California, no pun intended) in an absurd and counterproductive manner is not surprising. Regardless of whether I expected this type of pseudo-public service or not from her, it’s still wildly gross on multiple levels.

Let’s set the tone by reading some actual quotes from LGBTQ+ activists and organizations across the nation (as well as across the ideological spectrum) on how they feel about Caitlyn throwing her hat in the ring for Governor of California:

“Make no mistake: We can’t wait to elect a trans governor of California… But Caitlyn Jenner…

Bi, Pan, Queer — 3 reasons why I think BRC gets to the point of what Queer resources should be all about

I get little bursts of joy seeing the direction the U.S. LGBTQ+ community is going in. Though this direction is not perfectly linear in progress, my inner light is shining bright more often as I continue to see more examples of the LGBTQ+ community growing and developing. There will always be work to be done, but I believe we are truly starting to address on a structural level the intermarginalization of people within our shared community.

Very queer of me to turn a summary into an introduction.

Though I’ve known of the Bisexual Resource Center (BRC) for a while now…

A day of national Queer demonstration and remembrance

Today, April 23rd, 2021, we acknowledge the Day of Silence. Initiated by GLSEN, the national LGBTQ+ educational nonprofit, hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ students, educators, and allies today are taking a literal vow of silence to protest the discrimination many continue to face in their schools on a daily basis for simply existing. This day also honors the LGBTQ+ lives we have lost due to violence against their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

GLSEN’s 2019 National School Climate Survey found that 69% of LGBTQ+ students reported being verbally harassed by their peers due to their sexual orientation with…

“For a Black or Brown person running for office… having a lot to say about bad policies… that doesn’t always make people feel comfortable.”

2021 NYC Council candidate Phelan Dante Fitzpatrick carrying his child, Artie.

With the candidate interviews I publish, I usually write introductions that are on the longer side. However, to fully encapsulate and give justice to all of what this candidate is about and has to offer, I’m going to have to simply refer readers to the candidate’s campaign website to learn more. I know this seems like a lazy move, but once you get into the below interview, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

For logistical purposes, I will include that Phelan Dante Fitzpatrick (he/him) is currently running for NYC Council District 3 which encompasses the areas of Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen…

Interview with artist Oliver Schäfer

I met Oliver less than 48 hours ago and had no plans of interviewing him. The second I learned about his incredible artistic talent, I knew I had to learn more about who he is and why he does what he does.

Stating himself as a “Painter of strong women”, artist Oliver Schäfer (he/him) of Essen, Germany is becoming increasingly known for his breathtaking ability of painting color-blossomed portraits of change-making women and girls from around the world. This includes the likes of Helen Caldicott, Michelle Obama, Sophie Scholl, Greta Thunberg, and a soon-to-be portrait of the late Justice Ruth…

Whether it’s “F**k Me” pasties, clitoris suckers, a genderqueer pride-themed butt plug, or a plethora of different types of harnesses, this shop is run by Queers, for Queers in more than one way. For specification purposes, I will be referring to this shop’s Etsy presence, how I personally found them, rather than their stand-alone route which is also a great option.
