Where do I even start? The first thing that comes to mind when writing this is Tinder or Hinge. The idea of taking an in-progress memoir and making it even more condensed seems diminishing. However, that would defeat that point that is an introduction, wouldn’t it?
My name is Max Micallef (They/He/She), and I’m a proud Queer identifying person both in sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m also a proud Democratic Socialist and Queer rights activist here in New York State and beyond. …
I mean this is the most respectful way possible: I refuse to add to the barrage of blanketly expressed op-ed articles on the domestic terrorism that occurred at our nation’s Capitol on January 6th of this year. Yes, it is absolutely important that we discuss what happened as the many-layered issue that it is. It’s even therapeutically necessary. However, I will not sit here and publish an empty pathos simply stating how horrible that day was.
True Colors United is an organization that implements a wide range of solutions towards addressing the staggering number of homeless youth in our country who are LGBTQ+ identifying. The nonprofit recently released its statement titled, “True Colors United Against Fascism” which not only gives its perspective on the Pro-Trump riot that occurred but included resources and safety tips for the marginalized individuals affected by this tragedy. …
Unlike what some on the outside may believe, intermarginalization is very real and is not a rare occurrence. As heteronormativity is a psychologically entrenched belief system, so appears reflections of its false standards within the LGBTQ+ community itself. The same people heteronormativity suppresses. Intersectional understanding brings this recognition forward. Though improving, this type of prejudice continues to be upheld among Queer identities as well.
That’s a very brief summary of a more academic route to intermarginalization. Originally, the academic route is the route I wanted to take with this article, but I scrapped it. …
Intersectional understanding is a key component in the creation of comprehensive policy. Progressive policy. One current political issue that is inherently intersectional is the subject of sex work and the “decrim” advocacy efforts directly related to so.
This subject is something every single person in this country needs to learn more about as the incredibly important matter that it is.
The rights of sex workers are human rights, are civil rights, and is also a socioeconomic discussion. These are but a few of sex work’s categorizations. Here’s why:
I knew almost immediately in the pause she was taking, to collect her thoughts, that she felt she was stepping on heteronormative eggshells. “Of course you are who you are, and who you are is completely real and needs to be acknowledged. I’m just not understanding it.”
This statement was made by an acquaintance of mine, with only good intentions, in regards to my gender identity. Again, her statement was totally fine. Actually, it’s a very productive statement that promotes discussions that need to happen. …
Ahhh…. I love the smell of democratic socialism in the morning. Comprehensive healthcare, Quality, accessible education, genuine Queer liberation, and the dramatic cut of the wealth gap because the rich are paying their fair share. What’s not to like?
Instead of taking the more formal, analytical route, I want to share the answers received from the question I proposed, being, “What does democratic socialism look like to you?” I asked this through Reddit sub-chatrooms of socialist-supporting themes, with any and all able to answer.
This is a good introduction for those to understand why the everyday person supports democratic socialism and the principles behind it. Socialist policy becomes less “radical” (whatever that means) when you can humanize the already personal issues at hand, and shed the misconceptions upheld by the moderate establishment in power who benefit from the truth remaining concealed. …
I will probably get some backlash for saying this, but the holiday season really gives me the same type of glee ass eating does year-round. “From the most magical sack there ever was…. Oh, dear Santa will fill it well…. A whistle and a ball and whip that cracks….” All that generally connected, Freudian-slip jazz. You have to agree, right? There’s something about ass eating that’s both overtly sexual yet innocent in a way. However, “innocent” isn’t how I like receiving my rim jobs.
It’s currently at about half. 50% of the total number of rim jobs I have gotten thus far have been subpar. It’s not that these people should feel bad of course, but that’s a shocking amount of individuals that just don’t know how to bite the peach. …
I am a Democratic Socialist, Queer rights activist. I am also a very sexually liberated being, and a natural writer who discusses these topics, and many more. There are other aspects of me that some may see as additionally “different” as well. Whether through the advocation of my inherent sense of self or standing up for shared beliefs, I’ve always been about flipping the script.
Providing the civic education and modes of engagement, assisting others in seeing from the larger lens is a must while learning from their perspectives along the way. We all need to aid in removing the unfortunately normalized views towards our broken, structural systems, and even our daily lives. …

There’s definitely a more “suitable” picture I could use to overtly match this title, but I’m personally not drawn to stock photo articles forcing distressed tones. I don’t want to read the article with a person fake-crying into their hands, nothing else around them, with a stark white studio backdrop.
I chose this photo because it’s visually very comforting to me. The environment, the lighting and time of day, all reminds me of places I like to go and explore that make me feel more internally at home.
Today I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and I knew it was going to be a persisting state most likely until tomorrow. Instead of wanting to make a nice mug of coffee as a mood booster, my mind told me to avoid the caffeine that may fuel the upset feelings. I went with some Earl Grey as a warming substitute. …
Our New York State government reconvenes for its regular session on January 6th, 2021. Living in our current political climate where breaking news is often, and tends to actually be breaking, we New Yorkers have quite a few demands for our returning state legislators.
New Yorkers across the state are making our home progressive, and therefore people-powered. Through the primary then general election victories of Jabari Brisport, Marcela Mitaynes, Phara Souffrant Forrest, Jamaal Bowman, Mondaire Jones, and many more, we are showing the establishment that self-interest will no longer be tolerated. …
